How do you REALLY want to look back on a major moment in time?
What are you prepared to miss out on, just to allow your eating disorder to be pacified in its destruction of you?
How many times have you turned down events, opportunities and experiences, simply because to attend such occasions would threaten the behaviours or schedule which your illness thrives on?
Have you passed up holidays, weddings, festive celebrations, parties, or the chance of a first date?
This weekend, we finally know that England will be in the final of the Euros - the first time it’s featured in such an occasion since 1966.
So, regardless of whether you’re a crazy football fan or just a patriotic type, how will you react if you’re offered the chance to spend that 90 minute final in the company of others?
What will be your first thought be when a friend asks you to join them for a snack-fest viewing at their home?
How will you respond to your partner when they suggest you order in a pizza and enjoy the game on the sofa?
What the eating disorder wants you to do is to press the default button of reject, reject, reject!
Heaven forbid that you should be forced to change your eating window, snack on foods which sit outside your safe list, or break from the norm and eat spontaneously in front of others!
But remember this….
It’s exactly this behaviour - dismissing such occasions to stay where you’re comfortable - which has kept you poorly and stuck.
You’ve missed out on more than enough.
You’ve lost time with loved ones, time to be part of the collective emotion of your friendship group.
Don’t now miss out on being part of a moment which the nation will come together to share.
Take control this weekend.
Prove to your eating disorder that you’re stronger than its grasp.
You will never forget the committed steps you take toward proper recovery.
